25 Jun Artistic Statement – draft versions
Version 1
Drawing inspiration from masters such as Rembrandt and Caravaggio, and a lineage of
esteemed Polish artists including Matejko, Malczewski, Wyspiański, Witkacy, to Beksiński, my work forms a bridge between the old and the new, the traditional and the modern, initiating an intimate dialogue with the subconscious.
Each piece begins its life as an etching, evolving into a theatrical tableau that mirrors the drama and intricacy of the Baroque style. Simultaneously, I harness the power of modern digital tools, creating a vibrant interplay of light and shadow, the beautiful and the stark, the physical and the ethereal. This blend of contrasts is a defining feature of my work, offering a nuanced exploration of our identities and cultural roles.
My work not only acknowledges but explores the shadows of our world, emerging with a stronger sense of hope. It serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a reminder of the inseparable dance of light and shadow, life and death.
I aim to evoke an emotional response, inviting viewers on a journey of self-discovery and a celebration of the human and female experience in all its surreal wonder, through the lens of tradition refracted by the prism of modernity
